Ards Rangers Football Club was, once again, the venue on Friday night, 27th April, for the annual gathering of Ards Cricket Club players, family members, friends and supporters to participate in the Club’s 2018 Table Quiz Night. As in 2016 and 2017, this event was very well attended as about 60 Club members and friends pitted their wits and scratched their heads as 9 teams battled it out to be crowned Ards CC Quiz Night Champions 2018!
Back to defend their title were ‘Four men lost at sea’ strengthened, it was noted, by an additional oarsman and oarswoman in their team! Regular Ards CC family groupings of Keenans, Bishops and Hulberts were in attendance and it was also good to see both Chairman, Les Jones and Club Captain, Andy Savage present to lead their respective teams!
The event proved to be a very enjoyable occasion with a good sense of competition and some family rivalry thrown in as well. Thanks again to John Nixon and Matt Bishop for being Quiz Master and ‘Able Assistant’ – we all enjoyed the challenge - and to David McCullough and Paul Nihell, organisers of the event. Thanks also to Ards Rangers Football Club for the use of their function room and for the hospitality shown. Caterers for the event were The Sugar-Cube, Conway Square, Newtownards and Simple Delights, Bangor, who provided the sandwiches and cup-cakes respectively.
Winners on the night by a margin of 2.5 points were ‘Craft’ (Pictured), deposing ‘Four men lost at Sea’ into the Runners-Up spot! Mention must also be made of ‘The Ballyboley Three’ (aka the Hawkins family) whom, as their team name suggests, went into battle with three players against most teams six (and in one case, seven). A pro-rata scoring system may well have catapulted them up from a very respectable mid-table towards a challenge for top spot!
The evening was also the scene of the Ards CC Raffle Draw for 2018. Thanks to all our members and supporters for participating in this fund raising activity, either by buying, selling or doing both. Winners will be listed here once all have been notified.
