Ards Cricket Club Under 15 XI and Graham Cup team v Bangor on Fri 06 Jun 2014 at 6.00
Ards Cricket Club Lost by 8 wickets

Match report The Under 15's eventually kicked off their 2014 league campaign with a home local derby fixture against Bangor. Ards won the toss and chose to bat first. The innings started fairly sedately as Bangor opening bowlers, Boyd and Chambers, bowled fairly straight not offering many scoring opportunities for the Ards batsmen. Ards lost their first wicket in the 3rd over with 9 runs on the board when Chambers bowled Parkinson (2). Smith was joined at the crease by Owen Baillie and they took the score to 27 when Smith (9) was caught at cover off Young's 1st delivery. But Baillie and Sean Francis then put together Ards' best partnership taking the score on to 75 when Francis (14 including 2 boundaries) was caught and bowled by Young. Aaron Grimshaw (0) quickly followed running himself out going for a quick single with the total on 81. But Baillie was batting impressively hitting the ball powerfully and he soon reached his maiden 50 (which included two maximums and 6 boundaries). With Nathan Grimshaw also batting well the Ards total had reached 117 when Grimshaw (15 including 2 boundaries) was bowled by Chambers. Baillie, who finished 55no and Robbie Sinclair (2no) scrambled some late runs as the Ards innings closed on 120 (which included 21 extras) after the allotted 20 overs.

With a competitive total on the board the Ards boys were hopeful of securing a first win of the season, however, Boyd and Will had other ideas putting on an excellent opening partnership as the Ards bowlers tried in vain to make the vital beakthrough. Batting cautously at the start the Bangor batsmen showed great patience waiting for loose deliveries to score from and slowly increasing the tempo particularly in the 12th over from which 21 runs were plundered. Despite Calum McDaid bowling well at the end of the innings dismissing Will (33) lbw and bowling Boyd (45), Pyper (10no) and Kerr (1no) saw Bangor home in the 19th over. The concession of 31 extras, including 21 wides, once again didn't help the Ards cause.

Whilst the boys will be disappointed at this loss after posting a very decent total, there were again a lot of positives to be taken from this performance. Owen Baillie batted superbly building on his good knock against Derriaghy with his maiden 50. It was also good to see Nathan Grimshaw and Sean Francis score some runs in the middle order. A lot of the bowling was fairly good with Jack Smith and Aaron Grimshaw unlucky not to pick up some wickets early on and Calum McDaid showing alot of promise taking 2 wickets in his first spell for the Under 15's side.

Next up is another home league fixture against Templepatrick.
