Ards Cricket Club Under 13 XI and Banogue Cup v Dundrum on Fri 14 Jul 2017 at 6.00
Ards Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets

Match report Ards won the toss and put Dundrum in to bat on a sunny but breezy evening at Londonderry Park. Ards made an early breakthrough with Noah Greenauld having Campbell (3) caught and Orr (0) followed immediately slightly unfortunate to be run out having backed up too far at the bowler's end. Dominic Allen took the next wicket of Wilson (6) and Jonah Ditty followed suit dismissing McNeill (10). Further wickets followed for Euan Burrows who dismissed Flynn (6) and Ross McCaughey who bowled Byrne (2) and had Quinn (0) caught as the Ards bowlers slowly worked through the Dundrum batting line-up. However Cruddington (46 retired) played an excellent knock anchoring the Dundrum innings which after the late run outs of Wright and Micah Ditty (deputising for Dundrum who were a player short) closed on 103 for 9 in the 19th over. The Ards bowling performance was solid if not spectacular as was the fielding although some good catches were held especially those by Zach Moore and Joel Craig.

Ards' reply began steadily with Alex Miller and Dominic Allen picking off singles and the Ards' total had reached 34 after 8 overs when Alex Miller (9) was caught off Campbell. The arrival of Noah Greenauld to the crease provided immediate impetus to the Ards innings as he hit 22 runs off the unfortunate McNeill's over to take Ards to 58 for 1 at the halfway stage. Dominic Allen was the next batsman dismissed for a patient 15 by Orr but Greenauld, who was eventually dismissed caught & bowled by Campbell for 34 with 3 maximums and 3 boundaries, well supported by Jonah Ditty (11) before he was caught off Wilson took Ards in sight of victory. Despite Curtis Ewing (1) being run out Joel Craig (5no) and Rory McVeigh (6no) saw Ards safely across the finishing line in the 19th over to secure a 5 wicket victory.

This was a good match played in good spirit between two fairly evenly matched teams with Ards narrowly coming out victors on this occasion. The Ards boys are back in action again next Monday evening when they are away to Downpatrick.

So a first victory of the season for the U13's boys who were indebted to Noah Greenauld's hard hitting innings, which changed the course of the game, and valuable support from Dominic Allen, Jonah Ditty and Alex Miller.
