Ards Cricket Club 2nd XI v Victoria 2 on Sat 23 Jul 2011 at 12.00
Ards Cricket Club Won by 32 runs

Match report A warm and sunny day at Londonderry Park greeted the 2 sides and Ards were put into bat after losing the toss. An under strength Ards team containing a number of teenagers got off to good start with Curtis McCartney looking good until he was caught and bowled for 16, Ards then had a mini collapse with Ian McLean, Robbie Ingham and Andy Wright all departing quickly for single figure scores at this point Ards were in danger of being bowled out cheaply well inside the 35 overs. Matt Hulbert batted with restraint knowing they couldnt afford any more quick wickets with reinforcements on the way in the form of Jonny Keenan coming from work, Conn Crawford played some strong aggressive shots for a well made 17 before being bowled, in next was Roy Keenan who used all his experience in occupying the crease enabling Ards to give time for Jonny to arrive from work Matt Hulbert then presented a dolly to mid wicket for 10. That wicket ment in came Jonny Keenan batting at the unfamiliar position of number 10 to join his father Roy, Jonny soon found the Victoria bowling to his liking and quickly set about scoring a quick fire 53 not out who along with dad Roy who was run out off the last ball of the innings for 12 got Ards up to a very respectable 163 for 9 off 35 overs.

Ards got off to the perfect start in the field with Andy Wright and Roy Keenan each taking a wicket and a good run out leaving Victoria struggling at 3 wickets down, a good partnership for the 4th wicket however stabilised the innings before Matt Hulbert got the 4th wicket to fall bowling the experienced Terry Follis for 12 this however didnt mean the end of the Victoria fight back and a good partnership between D McDowell and J McVey meant the game was in the balance while they were at the crease it was Hulbert who again got the vital wicket of McDowell who top edged a wide delivery to third man and Conn Crawford despite appearing not to be looking made a well judged catch and when shortly after Andy Wright removed the other dangerman McVey the game was as good as won for Ards and they then wrapped up the tail with Hulbert picking up his 3rd wicket and McLean and Andy Curry getting a wicket a piece and another run out after good work from McCartney. This was a good victory with such an inexperienced side with good contributions from the young lads especially in the field with young Robbie Ingham impressing behind the stumps
