Ards Cricket Club Under 15 XI and Graham Cup team v Dundrum on Fri 29 Jul 2011 at 6.15
Ards Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets

Match report For the second Friday in a row, a team from Dundrum made the long journey to Londonderry Park this time for an U15's league match. Ards won the toss and chose to bat first. Unfortunately, Ards didn't make the start they would have hoped for losing the wicket of opener, Ross Martin (0), in the opening over bowled by Symington. Things got even worse in the second over when Adams dismissed Owen Roberts (0) and Taylor Nutt (0) to leave Ards really struggling. Joel Ferguson (0) fell in Symington's second over before Russell Hughes (2) was bowled by Martin who also picked up the wicket of Warren Martin (0) which left the Ards innings in tatters. Thankfully Michael Crooks who adopted an 'attack is the best form of defence' approach was making some runs as all those around him perished. Robbie Ingham (1) and Conn Crawford (0), the latter rather unfortunate to be adjudged lbw, then fell to spinner, Calvert as none of the batsmen offered much needed support to Crooks. Crooks' brave innings of 20, which was by some distance the top score for Ards, finally came to an end as he was run out going for a risky 2nd run. Some late resistance from Graham Cairns (6) who became Symington's 3rd victim and Conor Balfour (1no) saw the Ards innings finish in the 5th ball of the 12th over. Although a lot of credit goes to the Dundrum bowlers, who generally bowled straight and extracted some bounce from the wicket, this was a very poor batting display from Ards with 6 players getting 'ducks' which left them with a very moderate total to try to defend.

Despite a good opening spell from Ross Martin which saw him dismiss Calvert (4) caught at the wicket by Robbie Ingham, bowl O'Donoghue (4) and dismiss Symington (6) lbw, very positive batting from Martin (20no) and Adams (16), whose innings comprised 4 boundaries saw Dundrum reach the victory target of 55 very comfortably in the 8th over.

Unfortunately, the Ards performance didn't produce the desired improvement from the previous match against North Down and with some doubt about whether the Bangor fixture will be played this has been a very disappointing end to the season for the team. However, on a more positive note with the exception of Owen Roberts all the players will be eligible to play again at this age group next season. There have been some good performances by the team and by by certain individuals over the course of the season. Hopefully, the players will have benefited from the experience gained this season but also realise that there is room for lots of improvement. However, many of the players will need to show greater levels of application in practice and show a greater desire to improve their game, certainly much more than has been evident this season, to ensure that prospects for next season are brighter.
