Ards Cricket Club Under 15 XI and Graham Cup team v Larne on Fri 27 Jun 2014 at 6.30
Ards Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets

Match report The Under 15's faced Larne in their 3rd league fixture playing their first match on the new artificial wicket at Londonderry Park and seeking a first victory of the season. Ards won the toss on a fine warm and sunny evening and put Larne in to bat. Ards made the early breakthrough with Aaron Grimshaw having McFall (0) caught with the total on 2. The score had reached 18 when Larne lost their second wicket with S Weatherhead (1) caught & bowled by Calum McDaid. McIlroy and Cloke had taken the score to 31 when Cloke (10) was run out going for a risky 2nd run then Grimshaw took his second wicket bowling Campbell (2). Calum McDaid then also picked up his second wicket bowling McIlroy (16) as Ards continued to make steady inroads into the Larne batting line-up. Sean Francis, who bowled a very economic spell, then picked up the wickets of Stewart (0), Mitchell (0) and Murphy (0) to finish with 3 for 6 off his 4 overs. Grimshaw returned to finish his spell and picked up a deserved third wicket, R Weatherhead (0), and Calum McDaid wrapped things up bowling Higginson (0) and Logan (0) as the Larne innings closed on 55 after 19 overs. Stand out bowlers for Ards were Grimshaw, who got lots of swing, 3 for 9, McDaid who bowled very straight 4 for 12 and Francis' accurate off-spin 3 for 6. Jack Smith, Owen Baillie and Robbie Sinclair also beat the bat on a few occasions and were unfortunate not to take some wickets.

Taking nothing for granted the Ards openers, Jack Smith and Harry Jackson, started cautiously with McFall in partcular bowling accurately. Smith then hit 2 boundaries in the 4th over and went on the attack hitting Cloke for 5 boundaries in one over to put Ards well on top. Smith (33no) then retired to head off to BB camp for the weekend whilst fellow opener, Harry Jackson, batted very correctly making 10 before retiring. After reshuffling the batting order, Aaron McCutcheon (0) was bowled by Campbell but Adam Lawther (5no) and Calum McDaid (2no) saw Ards home with Lawther hitting a boundary to seal the win.

So a fairly comfortbale victory for Ards against a very inexperienced but keen Larne team, who battled hard throughout and will improve as they gain more experience over the season. The bowlers take much of the credit although with the ball swinging alot 18 wides were conceded so there's still lots to work on. Captain Smith's innings quickly took the game away from Larne. The next game for the Under 15's is a home fixture against Holywood.
