Bangor v Ards Cricket Club Under 15 XI and Graham Cup team on Wed 27 Jul 2016 at 6.00
Ards Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets

Match report Ards faced Bangor in the return fixture at Uprichard Park knowing that a win was essential to keep their play-off chances alive. Bangor had won the game earlier in the season at Ards fairly comfortably so a formidable challenge lay ahead for the Ards boys. Ards won the toss and inserted Bangor preferring to know what total they'd have to chase. Bangor started positively but in the 2nd over Dean Parke made an early breakthrough with White (1) caught by Glen Warwick at point with total on 9. Deano followed this up with another wicket in his 2nd over with the dangerous Pyper (4) brilliantly caught lowdown by McDaid on the mid-wicket boundary although Bangor's total had raced to 28 after only 4 overs with Simpson playing some big shots. However, McDaid in his 3rd over picked up the vital wicket of Simpson (18) also superbly caught at deep mid-wicket by Dean Parke and Ards' spin twins, Glen Warwick and Craig Boobyer, then entered the fray with Warwick dismissing B Escott (1), caught by Frankie Davis, and Boobyer bowling Turbit (0) as the momentum swung back in Ards favour. Warwick also picked up the wickets of Boyd (11) and Irwin (2) both sharply stumped by skipper Harry Jackson as Ards began to take control. With Parke returning in his last over to dismiss Law (3) and Murray (0) and Paulin run out after a mix-up with M Escott, Bangor's innings concluded at the end of the 16th over on a well-below par score of 56.

So at the halfway stage Ards were strong favourites but they knew Bangor's bowlers would try to make it as difficult as possible. With Simpson and Pyper bowling aggressively Harry Jackson and emergency opener Glen Warwick showed a lot of composure and maturity taking the total to 38 in the 10th over when Warwick (13) was bowled by White. Boobyer came to the crease playing positively and the score had reached 55 when he was bowled by Simpson for 14 (including 2 boundaries) who also bowled Eddie Hawkins (0) and Harry Jackson (15) in the same over to add some late drama to proceedings. However, a bye off the 1st ball of the 16th over saw Ards stuttering rather than cantering across the finishing line to secure an excellent and well-deserved victory by 6 wickets with Parke (2no) and Davis (0no) at the crease.

So the Ards boys pick up a vital win after a very solid team performance with a number of vital contributions with bat, ball and in the field. Next up is a double-header against unbeaten league leaders Holywood.
