Ards Cricket Club 1st XI v Dungannon on Sun 21 Aug 2016 at 12.00
Ards Cricket Club Won by 74 runs

Match report On Sunday Ards CC, sponsored by Tile Style, hosted Dungannon in their last Ulster Bank Section 3 home match of the season, coming away with a comfortable 74 run victory, in the T20 format.

Winning the toss, the Ards skipper decided to bat first but Ards were one down for 1 run in the first over, bringing Sims to the crease to join Nihell in what proved to be the match winning partnership of 156. Both struck the ball forcefully around the large Londonderry Park field, with Sims in particular very aggressive early on, launching a severe assault on the two opening Dungannon bowlers. By the end of the fifth over the score had raced to 55, by the tenth 110, and by the 15th it had reached 156 before Sims was out for a belligerent 62. Nihell continued on with first Cox and then Jackson as Ards totalled 172-3 in their 20 overs, perhaps a little less than the early progress had promised but a total the Ards bowlers felt happy about defending nevertheless.

In reply, Dungannon were never really up with the rate and lost wickets at regular intervals. James Millar-Hogg ran out the dangerous Adrain with a direct hit in the second over and Balfour dismissed the other opener Perry for 5 in the third. The only decent partnership of the innings was between Meeke (24) and Registe (17) which took Dungannon up to 55 in 9th over before both players were dismissed in quick succession to the spinners Ethan Davies and Arafat Khan respectively. Young Millar-Hogg (1-17) and the returning Paul Cox (0-15) bowled 8 very tight overs between them, conceding only 32 runs, and Balfour (3-15) returned to take a further two wickets as Dungannon could only muster 98 in their 20 overs, leaving Ards victorious by 74 runs.

Once more the young players (6 were under U18) performed well in the field, and with the ball, backing up the efforts of Sims and Nihell with the bat. With one more fixture to complete, a rearranged match with Donaghadee this coming weekend, Sims will be looking to them to finish the season strongly and complete a double over their near neighbours.
