CSNI 2s v Ards Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 20 May 2017 at 1.00
Ards Cricket Club Lost By 6 wickets

Match report Ards batted first and got off to a great start with Paul Nihell playing in his customary way hitting fours and sixes at will as Ards raced to 40 in five overs leaving the home side a little shell shocked, Benji Cathcart had played the more solid role at the other end and was out caught at slip for the second week running bring Sam Ingham to the crease. Sam and Paul continued to play the opening bowlers comfortably it was the introduction of two spin bowlers that was to make the breakthrough for Csni as Paul Nihell fell for 39 in the 9th over, Garry Stewart was next man in and looked at ease till he was adjudged lbw for 6 Ards then suffered another set back when Sam Ingham was out for 16 when again he looked well set and was playing well. Andrew Savage and skipper Matt Hulbert then set about trying to get the innings back on track and took the score past the hundred mark and were playing sensible cricket until Savage got bowled by a turning devilery for 17 this left Ards with a mountain to climb if they were going to post the competitive total they looked capable of. No further wickets fell before the drinks break however Robbie Ingham was out for 5 shortly after and Matt Hulbert when attempting to put his foot down picked out the fielder for a patient 18 the rest of the batsman fell quickly with nobody making a mark and were all out for 142 probably at least 60 runs shy of what was capable.
The home sides reply got off to a good start as Sam Ingham couldn't find his usual accuracy and control it wasn't until the 8th over that Ards made a breakthrough with the returning Gareth Rodgers trapping his man lbw following two previous close shouts. Arafat Khan was introduced into the attack and picked up the wicket of the dangerous looking opener in his second over clean bowled and then dismisssed the next two csni batsmen for ducks one to a great catch in the outfield by James Miller-Hogg and the other clean bowled to leave the home side reeling a little at 57/4. Ards were sensing an upset but it proved a case of what might have been as the csni number six smashed his way to an unbeaten 56 leading his team to victory and Ards for the third match this year left thinking what might of been had the batsman who got started had gone on to bigger scores but it was an improved bowling display led by Gareth Rodgers and Arafat Khan both bowled well and Rodgers unlucky to pick up just the one wicket.
