Ards Cricket Club 2nd XI v Donaghcloney Mill 4s on Sat 19 May 2018 at 1.00
Ards Cricket Club Lost By 7 runs

Match report Ards 2nd XI came close to pulling off a dramatic victory over a strong and favoured, Donacloney team at Londonderry park on Saturday.
While the visitors eventually came out victorious, the mostly youthful Ards team pushed them all the way, losing out by only seven runs in a high scoring encounter. Indeed with three overs left of the 25 to be played and 17 runs required Ards looked likely favourites to pull off an unlikely victory.
The visitors made first use of the artificial wicket and made steady progress in accumulating their runs. The Ards bowling attack, though, never faltered and apart from one six to seven over period, were able to take wickets at regular intervals.
Jonah Ditty making his debut , got good movement from his bowling and deservedly picked up a couple of wickets whilst a mid innings spell by another young player Dominic Allen brought him and the Ards team three further wickets. Ards Captain Conn Crawford also took a couple of wickets towards the end of the innings and with the support of Arafat Khan and Rory Mcveigh, plus a run out from Joel Ferguson, helped to pull back the late innings acceleration by the donacloney batsmen. However one batsman D Casey managed to establish himself and went on to make what was ultimately a match winning innings of 76. Donacloney finished their innings on 165/8. Ards competed well and had good bowling options backed by enthusiastic fielding, led by Paul Nihell behind the stumps with mention also of Rowan Nihell, Ross Mccaughey and Joel Craig (sub).
In response to what was a formidable total in 25 overs, Ards got off to a solid start through openers Arafat Khan and Harry Jackson. Both players looked in good form as they took their opportunities to hit any wayward bowling. A score of 59 had been reached inside eight overs before Arafat fell lbw for 31.
Junior player Noah Greenauld came to the wicket and played a very mature innings to support Jackson as the pair took the score up to 98 before Greenauld was caught for 26.
Jackson however remained to accumulate his runs steadily and with the help of the enterprising Joel Ferguson, with 22, had taken Ards to within touching distance of victory at 149/2 including a fine 50 by Jackson. However in the space of the next three overs, the accurate Donacloney bowling attack forced the Ards batsmen to go for more reckless shots leading to six dismissals as Ards pushed for victory. When the final ball was bowled, Ards found themselves seven runs short of their opponents total.
Although defeated, this performance should give the Ards team cause for optimism for the rest of the season under the leadership of Conn Crawford, who led well in his first outing as captain.
